Back up and then back up again~!

Many years ago I learned a priceless lesson which I will never forget. Wendy from Dallas, Texas was telling me how she had to reformat her computer but she wasn't worried because she had everything backed up on an external hard drive. Unfortunately when she plugged in the external after the reformat, the external died. Sound like a one in a million chance? Don't be so sure, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me many years ago. I was devastated, I lost everything. Luckily it was many years ago when I didn't have alot to lose (though it seemed like it at the time). These days I have 2 externals (actually 3 but I don't trust one of them) and back up everything twice. Even when your computer is running fabulous it can happen in a split second. So don't procrastinate - back up!! (And then back up again~!!!)

Well, during the four days of the Great Backyard Bird Count, I basically only saw 4 species of birds (Mourning Doves, Downy Woodpecker, Black Capped Chickadee and European Starlings) ~ until the last day. I saw a Red Tailed Hawk. It was flying right over my house but it was too far up to get a picture. I knew it was a hawk but I wasn't sure what kind so I went to the Checklist and typed in my postal code and it gave me the option of 4 hawks in this area. When you click on the name of the bird it takes you to a page all about it and even lets you listen to the sound it makes. I found out immediately it was a Red Tailed Hawk. The only reason I actually noticed it was because of the sound it made as it flew by. Then it circled around and around but was getting very high in the sky so I couldn't take a picture of it. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is a fabulous site all about birds. Ok, the geek in me is coming out again ... LOL.

I feel like a celebrity of sorts from today's posting. lol! Yes, backup and backup again. I don't know if I mentioned that I did have a second external running now with all the same data. It is devastating when you lose it all in one fell swoop.

Thanks so much for another beautiful addition to the Wedding Wishes series. I just love collecting these especially since my son is getting married in September. Hugs Wendy

It is so important to backup! I backup twice and about once a week I back up and keep the files away from my house that way I'm protected from fire or theft as well as a computer or hard drive crash.
