Dependent

You never realize how dependent you are on electricity until you lose it. We had a big storm a few days ago (right after I posted here) and our electricity went out. It stayed out for over 23 hours~! Here's a few pics of the nasty clouds we had right before the storm.







The storm didn't actually last all that long but it did rain for the rest of the day. But lightening had hit a major transformer in the area and a large part of the city was without power. Some people got theirs back that same day but we were out from 12:30 pm until almost 12 noon the next day. I couldn't vacuum, do laundry or run the dishwasher. DARN~! lol
But the worst part was I couldn't go on the computer. ***GASP***
It was a weird feeling. I could go on the laptop because the battery was charged but I don't have all my programs installed on it and I turned it on, looked at the screen and I couldn't get on the internet so I shut it back off. Then I walked around like a lost child for the rest of the day ... LOL~! My husband got a great laugh out of it. He said he had never seen me so ... squirmish. It rained pretty well all night but we still had a BBQ. Now I think I could of done without the tv, radio, stove and lights without a problem. Candles always work well and I have a booklight if I want to read. But ... no computer??? No blog, facebook or email??? I soon realized it wasn't the electricity I was dependent on, it was the computer. The next day when the electricity came back on ... turning on my computer was like finding an old friend ~!! LOL

So I'm Not The ONLY one ...

Well, that was interesting. I really thought that I must be strange for thinking scrapbook pages should be used to display pictures ... lol. But from the comments I got (thank you~!) I guess I'm not. Whew ...

IT IS COLD OUT! Sorry for the caps but wow, summer has ended big time. Today it's cold and raining and cloudy and dreary. A good day to clean house. (Right after I'm done here~) I had some ivy outside in planters that I dug out yesterday and brought inside, I'm really glad I did. I also brought in my favourite geranium. This will be it's second winter indoors.

My husband thinks I'm a worry wart (ok, I am) because I worry about everything! Lately it's been about the little Chickadees. They are sooo tiny and when it gets cold out I want to bring them all inside...lol. They are one of the few birds that don't go south for the winter months and the most common cause of death for them is starvation in the winter.



This is the time of year when they start stashing food away. We do feed the birds all summer with seeds and peanuts but in the winter we also put out suet. It gives the birds tons of energy and helps them to survive. The one mistake some people make is to feed them all summer and then they stop feeding them in the winter (usually because its just too cold and miserable outside to fill the feeders) but that is when they REALLY need it. We always make sure the birds are fed. There is not one time during the year that I would throw stale bread in the garbage ... most birds will eat it and even though sometimes it brings the messy seagulls around, I figure they have to eat too~!



I know, it's crazy !. But I always find myself wondering how anything survives out there in our crazy winter months.

Please Help Me Understand ~!

Ok, I'm assuming that most people that download digital graphics create digital scrapbook pages. I know that since digital cameras came around I take pictures of everything. Well, ok, mostly birds and flowers but ... lol.

Regardless if I am creating a scrapbook page I always do it in 12x12 inch format. AND ... I want to SEE the picture on the page. I've gone through so many digital scrapbook page gallerys and it always surprises me how people put tiny pictures on such big pages ... not only that but they usually only put ONE picture on a 12x12 layout and the picture only takes up 1/10 of the page. You know, you've seen them (or maybe even created them) - A 12x12 layout with a little picture in one corner usually surrounded by a fancy swirl or something and not much else on the rest of the page. I admit that many of them look really pretty BUT isn't digital scrapbooking about replacing photo albums?. Don't get me wrong, I love the embellishments but I want the picture (or pictures) to be the main focus. If I only ever put one picture to a page some of my scrapbooks would have to be litterly hundreds of pages. lol I have put one picture on a page ... but guaranteed its large. The reason I chose the 12x12 inch format in the first place was because of the amount of room for either larger pictures or more pictures per page. I know - to each their own but I can't seem to get a grasp on those type of layouts. I'd really love to know how other people feel about this.

Ok, so speaking of 'multiple' pictures on a page ... lol. Again, I'm not really into quickpages but sometimes I create something for myself and think - Wow, if I used quickpages I would really like this one ... lol. So today I put these quickpages into LLL Creations Dollar Mart.

What a Show ~!

I know I talked about this a few posts ago but these starlings are really entertaining me ... lol. Every night around 6 - 6:30 they put on quite the show for about a 1/2 hour. Normally we only see a few in the day time but they come in droves in the evening.



Litterly hundreds gather in the trees and then take off all together ... swooping and turning in one massive form right over the field behind our house.



This goes on and on ... and then sometimes the 'leader' will land near the bird feeder and then they all come.



Ok, so it doesn't take much to amuse me. I guess you have to be a bird nut to appreciate it ... lol.

Long Post ... but a special one ~

I finally got to meet my great nephew~! He is so adorable ... and even though he is already 10 or 11 lbs. he seems soooo tiny~!!!



We went to a nice baby shower for mommy it was fun. She received some beautiful gifts and Devin was really great around such a crowd.



One of the games we played was 'Guess the flavour of the baby food'! We had to team up and try 12 different baby foods and guess the flavours ... !!! I've never seen so many adults not want to try the same food they will give their babies~! LOL My team thought we did really well but we only had 4 out of 12 right! Hmmm... well, it has been 'a few' years ... lol.

We did typical shower stuff and of course made mommy wear the ribbon hat.



Everyone there was having a good time.



Having a baby in the family again has given me so many ideas for designing.

I came up with this idea for a layout last week and I was playing around and discovered they would make great quickpages. Sooooo ... because I was having so much fun I ended up making quite a few of them. I put them into LLL Creations Dollar Mart today.
