Early Post and a Contest!

Ok, it's my husbands poker night again so I'm posting a day early ... lol. The rest of the week is going to be pretty busy. One of the things I am doing is painting. The last few weeks I've painted 2 hallways, a bathroom and one wall in my living room. My newest rage is painting one wall darker then the other walls, like an accent wall. And then today I painted one wall in my rec room, I'll be doing the second coat tomorrow. I love how paint can change the whole look of a room. Then we are also off to Michigan to see my nephew graduate from University. I sure hope it warms up because boy has the weather stayed chilly. I was really hopeful that the nice weather we were having was here for good, but I guess it wasn't to be. Mother Nature can really be a tease sometimes! lol

Happy Mothers Day to all mothers, grandmothers, step-mothers, god mothers, dog mothers, cat mothers and any other mother~! lol

We went to my daughters yesterday and they took us out for dinner. On the way to her city we ran into a nasty rain storm and wow, was it windy! By the time we got to her place the wind was unbelievable. And today it is just like winter out. I'm actually bringing my hanging flower baskets inside tonight so they don't get killed off by the frost we are supposed to have!
It's amazing how fast the weather can change.

I'm Ready ~!

I think I am anyways. I think I'm ready for my daughters wedding. I have my dress, I have my shoes and I wrote my speech~! Hopefully all the other little details will just fall into place. Only 4 1/2 weeks to go ...

Thank you to everyone for your kind words about Mischief. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he has some 'pain free' time left. I've noticed lately that my younger cat Nemo hasn't been wrestling with him as much. Normally every day at some point or another Nemo will start wrestling Mischief. Mischiefs reaction to that has always been the same. He lies on his back with his paws up and ready (Mischief has claws, Nemo doesn't ... lol). When Nemo jumps on him Mischief goes right for the face ... lol. Needless to say Nemo is always the one that backs off first. Sometimes they are in a wrestling match and it's so funny because Nemo will use his back paws to try and scratch Mischief (he has back claws, not front). But lately I haven't seen Nemo go after Mischief at all. I think he actually senses that Mischief isn't well.

Here's a picture of my cute little 'Little Bookends' ... lol.



The top cat is Nemo, the bottom one Mischief. This picture was taken only 2 months ago and I can't believe how much skinnier Mischief looks now compared to then. But I'll keep hoping for a miracle turn around.

Our cat Mischief will be 16 years old on the 15th of May. We are hoping he makes it that long. The past few months we have seen Mischief deterioate. We've seen the 'oldness' in his eyes for the last few years but he can still see well. Except that his pupils will not dilate in the sun like they used to so he doesn't like bright lights. His whole life he's never been a big cat, always around 6 1/2 pounds. Even though he's been eating he has lost so much weight. When you pet him you are basically petting a skeleton with fur on it. He is just not maintaining his nourishment. We know he probably has a tumor or something that will be fatal. And at this point we also know if we bring him to the vet they are going to suggest putting him down because of his age. We watch him so carefully ever day now to look for signs of suffering. He does have a hard time jumping now and is much slower then he used to be. But so far, other then weakness he still purrs and cuddles on our laps and he's eating so we are optimistic that we will 'know' when it's time.

Mischief was an outdoor cat his whole life up until 3 years ago. But when we moved into this house we decided for a few reasons to make him into a indoor cat. Number one being all the wild life around this area and number two my cat was always an indoor cat. Plus at the beginning it was unfamiliar territory to him and I guess because of his age he really has never seemed interested to go out here. (My cat Nemo who has always been an indoor cat is another story!!! lol)

Both cats go outside in a large cage everyday for a 1/2 hour here, a 1/2 hour there and they both love it. Mischief has always been so good. When he wants to come in he meows and lifts his paw. So I just open the cage door and he walks into the house. (I could never do that with Nemo - I have to open the cage door and grab him before he takes off~! lol)

The other day I opened the cage door and Mischief slowly came out of the cage but he didn't walk towards the door. He started smelling the grass and gradually started walking around the yard. I was going to pick him up and put him inside but my husband said 'Let him explore'. He was right, Mischief is no threat to take off, he just doesn't have the energy.

So we let him roam. He walked slowly all around the yard smelling things and then started walking through the field at the back. My husband stayed close to him but let him explore all over the place for about a 1/2 hour. He even jumped up on a rock and looked like King of the Castle. He loved every minute of it and I think he even got a sparkle back in his eyes. He was exhausted after but we are so glad we let him do it. Mischief has been such a loyal companion and we can only hope that we will know in our hearts when the right time has come.
