Brrr ...

This winter is either extremely colder then normal or my skin is getting thinner ... lol. Between the wind chill factor and this colder then normal weather, I have no idea how the animals and birds survive. If you want to do your part, please be nice and feed our feathered friends. Alot of them won't make it through this winter without some help.





Today I put out more seed, suet and peanuts for the birds. It was at least sunny out but still very chilly. It didn't take long before the woodpeckers were around. They LOVE the peanuts. And with the containers that they are in (shown above) there really is no waste and they last a really long time. Those peanuts are not in a shell. We have put out peanuts with the shell too but it is alot messier, plus the birds have to work alot harder. It's too cold right now to work hard for food ... lol.

Just over one month until Valentines day. And that's fine but ...

One day after that ... well, it's ummm ...a BIG day for me.

Yeah because ... it will be my 5 ... 5 ... 5 ... oh, what the heck - My 50th Birthday~!

Yikes! What happened to my 40's, never mind - what happened to my 30's?? lol

Yowsers! I can't even think about it right now~!.

Think Spring ... think spring ... lol

Man, it is bitter cold out there. Today the sun is shining but that hasn't helped much. I know I live in Canada and I should be used to it, but I never get used to it ... lol. I guess parts of the United States are having record lows too. My friend that lives in Florida for part of the year says it is freezing there. They are losing all of their flowers and bushes they planted. Everyone has all the shrubs and trees covered trying to save them. And they call this global warming?? lol

Don't you just love it when you take down your Christmas tree and you feel like immediately the room got bigger? It seems all of a sudden you have all this 'space' and things look so much neater. Christmas is nice, but it is sure nice to get all that extra 'stuff' put away too~!!!

Date it, name it and don't delay!

One of the things I have done forever is date my pictures. Long before digital cameras and when I was just a young teenager I got into the habit of marking the date on the back of the pictures I had developed. And I'm so glad I did. It's so easy to 'loose' track over the years. Alot of the pictures my parents took were not dated. Alot of the old pictures taken before us kids were born were basically 'dateless' and some 'nameless'. Like I said in the last post my family is posting old family photos on our facebook and my aunt has been a great help dating some of these old pictures for me and also giving me names. Now with digital pictures I still make sure I date at least the folders and most of the pictures are individually dated too. It's something you shouldn't delay doing and just getting into the habit of it is so worth it.

Did you do the 365 challenge last year?

Ok, I read about the 365 Challenge at the beginning of last year and I knew it wasn't for me. I do take a ton of pictures so what was my reason? I'm hard on myself and I already had so many projects on the go I knew that I would just dissappoint myself ... lol. Plus, I like to finish what I start and that's a longggg commitment. But I'd really love to hear from people that actually did it. And how many people actually stuck to it and finished it. I probably could of done a 54 week challenge but I didn't attempt that either. But ... I would like to do a 12 month challenge this year. Mine would be to commit to taking a picture a month hopefully on or near the same day each month on one subject and doing something with that. (I'll still take a ton of pictures as usual, but commit to a 'one subject' layout a month) I'm thinking of a layout a month of my great nephew Devin. I might not be able to take those pics myself because we live far away but I'm sure his parents will send me a pic once a month. Apparently they have already taken over 1000 pictures and he's only 4 months old. The other neat thing to do would be to take a picture of say your backyard from the exact same angle every month. With our 4 seasons its amazing how different the exact same spot can look. Well, I'm not sure exactly what my 'topic' is going to be but ... I did make some Month Frames to encourage myself to do it! LOL

And you are going to benefit too because once a month I will be giving you a Month Frame ... starting of course with January. I'd love to know of any ideas you have about how you might use these. I think they would be great for kids.

Treasure Your Memories ...

I hope your New Years Eve was a good one! We just stayed in and had a fondue and watched all the festivities all over the world on tv. It was nice and relaxing.

My last post on the 30th I had set up a few days before to post automatically because I was having company. We had my sister and brother-in-law over on the 29th and 30th and had a really nice visit. Of course we ate too much and probably drank too much ... lol. On the 30th in the morning we received news that my Uncle had passed away the previous day. Our Uncle Paddy was such a character and had such a great sense of humour. Even though he only lives a few hundred km's away, I hadn't seen him in over 4 years. It's one of those 'next time I'm in the area' or 'when it's warmer' or 'it's a busy month' kinda thing. Irish and proud maybe it was for the better. At 76 years young he had declined over the past year with dementia and it would of been hard to see him that way. But ... it really makes you realize you can't keep 'putting off' and 'putting off' because you never know what is around the next corner.

If there is a silver lining to that story it would have to be that because of his death we have become reaquainted with relatives we haven't seen in ages (and some we have never met). We discovered that alot of our relatives have facebook and even though they might live all over the world we have now all connected and a wonderful thing has happened. We are all uploading old pictures and finding out facts that we didn't know about our family. I'm sure my Uncle Paddy is smiling down at us. ♣
